The Subject Was Children
Published in Hardcover by E P Dutton (January, 1980)
Author: Eugene F. Mitchell
Average review score:

Simply Beautiful!
This is simply a beautiful book about the illustrator Jessie Wilcox Smith. Eugene Mitchell (Gene Mitchell on the book cover) has captured the charm of this special artist. It includes not only a biography, but an autobiography in Smith's own words about her experiances painting children. The full color illustrations are beautiful enough to frame. Since it is out of print, and if you can find a used one, grab it, this is a book that Jessie Wilcox Smith admirers don't want to miss. My only regret is that the Mitchell didn't do further books as promised in this one.

A Symposium for Pianists and Teachers
Published in Paperback by Heritage Music Press (01 March, 2002)
Authors: Gail Berenson, Jacqueline Csurgai-Schmitt, William DeVan, Mitchell Elkiss, Seymour Fink, Phyllis Alpert Lehrer, Barbara Lister-Sink, Robert Mayerovitch, Norman Rosen, and Dylan Savage
Average review score:

A little bit of everything
This book can be used by pianists and piano teachers (often isolated in small towns) to find up-to-date answers to recurring injury problems, inspiration for playing "from the mind and heart" as well as the hands, and, in general, just talking about piano (although a lot of the information works well for other instrumentalists as well--especially the exercises for flexibility and strength). It's like a "class in a book."

Take My Land, Take My Life: The Story of Congress's Historic Settlement of Alaska Native Land Claims, 1960-1971
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Alaska Pr (December, 2001)
Author: Donald Craig Mitchell
Average review score:

The political history of Alaska is an eye-opening story
This concludes the 134-year history of the U.S. government's relationships with Alaska's native peoples, begun in Mitchell's first book Sold American. The political history of Alaska is an eye-opening story which should be read by any with more than a casual interest in the state: this focuses on Congress' settlement of Alaska native land claims from 1960-71, providing plenty of detail unavailable elsewhere.

Taking Tea: The Essential Guide to Brewing, Serving, and Entertaining With Teas from Around the World
Published in Hardcover by Grove Press (September, 1988)
Authors: Andrea Israel and Pamela Mitchell
Average review score:

Take Your Tea with This Entertaining Guide
This book is pure pleasure from beginning to end. Like a good novel you just don't want to put it down. Starting with the history of tea we embark on a soothing international journey of tea traditions. The authors have filled this book with descriptive commentaries and color photographs depicting the countries, the people and appropriate table settings. Recipes reflect the characteristics of each region. I have especially enjoyed using the "Guide to Buying Tea" with its serving suggestions. This book is a lovely and must have addition to any tea library!

The Tale of the Egyptian Mummies

Average review score:

Great Story! Lots of fun!
I like this story a lot. It is spooky. Whenever I read it I can visualise what is happening. This story has some great events and is one of the best Are You Afraid Of The Dark series books out! You should read it sometime.

The Taxi That Hurried (Little Golden Book)
Published in Hardcover by Golden Pr (July, 1992)
Authors: Irma Simonton Black, Jessie Stanton, Tibor Gergely, and Lucy Sprague Mitchell
Average review score:

Together They are a Speedy Pair
My eighteen month old son and I discoverd this story in a Little Golden Book box set. The first edition was published in 1946 and the illustrations have a notable charm from that era. The story was written in the third person with the characters speaking in whimsical rhyme. Even the taxi has an excitable personality as it "wiggles" and "jiggles" through the traffic "bouncing" and "jouncing" its passengers along the way. My son's favorite part is when the Taxi-driver Man must honk the horn to get through the traffic. This is a very fun story! My son was hooked after we read it the first time. And now I am looking for a first edition!

Ten Lectures on the Use of Chinese Medicinals from the Personal Experience of Jiao Shu-De
Published in Hardcover by Paradigm Pubns (January, 2003)
Authors: Jiao Shu-De and Craig Mitchell
Average review score:

Insights into the character of medicinals
You might wonder why you should want this book if you already have Bensky's Materia Medica. As its title implies, this book was prepared from Jiao Shu-De's lectures on Chinese medicinals. Some of my colleagues have opined that this book's target audience was barefoot doctors, and that as aspiring scholar-doctors we have little to gain from its study. I must disagree - Ten Lectures is a worthwhile read for anyone hoping to expand their knowledge of Chinese medicinals. It is written in a clear, conversational style, and it does more than most books in English to clarify the individual character of specific medicinals as well as to place them in their proper context, i.e. prescriptions. There is also some sage advice on herbal prescribing in general.

Ten Lectures is a worthy translation and it belongs in your collection whether you are a student of Chinese medicine or a Chinese medical professional.
